La Gloria Cubana Medio Tiempo (25)

La Gloria Cubana Medio Tiempo, the new, regular-production cigar is named after medio tiempo, the defining tobacco incorporated into its blend. Medio tiempo is not a tobacco varietal, but rather, a sprouting of two leaves that sometimes grows atop a tobacco plant. Not all plants, however, produce medio tiempo. Some farmers have estimated that only one in ten plants produce these top leaves. Because of its top position on the stalk, this rare tobacco gets the most direct sunlight and is prized for its concentrated strength.

In this case, the medio tiempo was harvested from the top of some Connecticut Habano tobacco plants grown in the Connecticut River Valley. The blend also includes tobacco from Honduras, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic, all held together by a Connecticut broadleaf binder and Ecuador Sumatra wrapper. Blended to be a medium bodied cigars.
